Streaks on the nail under new polish, especially if you just got the most gorgeous nail color and still the results of your manicure look like a DIY job. The nail polish brush goes over the nail but there are still streak marks once the polish dries. Some nail polish newbies will blame the nail polish and its quality but for the most part, it has nothing to do with the nail polish but with the way the nail polish brush is used.
Streaks mostly appear because of the way the first coat is applied or how much pressure is applied while brushing from the cuticle to the tip of the nail. The nail polish settles in the grooves, leaving streak marks even after the nail polish has dried completely. To avoid this problem it is important to first note how you apply the brush to the nail. Don’t slide the brush from the cuticle to the tip of the nail, but place it just above the cuticle so that the polish can flow out to the nail and after a second gently brush it down to the tip. This helps to avoid pressure marks.
Secondly, try not to fill the nail with the first coat. Newbies will often worry about seeing the natural nail underneath, so they add more polish immediately but in this way the polish will always appear streaky because too much nail polish on the brush will not dry flat and leave pressure marks. So the trick is to apply the first thin coat and even if the nail is still showing through don’t worry, once you apply the second coat all should be fine
Practicing the nail polish brush strokes will also help you to eliminate streak marks. Instead of concentrating on how to get the color just right, take 15 minutes to practice the movement of your hands. Start with just two nails and try to brush slowly over them. Wait a minute or two before you apply more color to see if it is needed. Then in the next few minutes try to use a bit less pressure so the brush will almost float over the nail. That is the secret to a non-streaky nail polish application.
Once you learn to brush more slowly and with less pressure the results should be smooth nail polish that reflects the light and even the most ordinary nail polish color will look beautiful. Learning how to brush slowly and steadily will take the frustration out of your nail polish application process.
